What do I need to do before I can start driving?
You need to be at least 17 years of age and if you have not already done so, apply for a provisional license from the DVLA. You can do this online or by getting an application form from the post office. It is also worth having an eyesight check, but in any event, ensures you can read a standard car number plate at 20.5 metres.

How much are driving lessons with an acclaim driving instructor?
Driving lessons vary in cost, depending on where you live.
How often should I have my driving lessons?
Continuity of driving lessons is important and Acclaim recommends that you have between 2 and 4 hours per week. You will also progress much quicker if you have two hour lessons each time.
What do I need to start learning to drive?
Firstly the most important thing you need is to obtain a provisional driving licence. You can apply for one of these by picking up a form at your local postal office and mail it to the DVLA.
What is the cheapest way of booking my driving lessons?
You should take advantage of our discounts, which are available on block-bookings. These generally apply on 10 hours or more.
What will my first lesson involve?
To begin with your instructor will pick you up from your home or workplace and take you to a suitable location and then set targets what i hope to achieve during the timescale of your tuition.
How many lessons will I need?
While it is very hard to put a figure on how many exactly, it depends on any road experience you already have, i.e motorcycle experience may help or having a good road sense. Again I will carefully monitor your progress and inform you at the end of each lesson. The important part is for you to apply for your practical test as soon as i believe you are able to drive safely and correctly.
Do acclaim offer intensive driving courses?
Yes i do offer intensive driving courses. These can be anything from one week upwards. Undertaking an intensive course will depend on several factors, such as previous experience and whether you have passed your theory test. If you want to go ahead, I will arrange a two hour driving assessment and advise you of your best route to test.
Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons?
No, and in fact it may be better to learn the theory whilst having practical lessons. You will however need to pass the theory test before applying for the practical test.
What should I study to pass the Theory Test?
Acclaim provides various DVDs and books which contain sample DSA questions and hazard perception clips.
Will there be others in the car during my lesson?
The answer is simply No to this question as i will only provide one-to-one tuition and believe that having others in the car will cause distractions. i know that some other schools use a “piggy back service” which involves dropping off the previous client. I promise this will never happen during your time with me
Where do I take my Theory Test?
There are several theory test centres across the UK. Your acclaim driving instructor will be able to advise you of your nearest centre.
When should I apply for my test?
I will always keep you informed of your progress and at the end of each lesson; I will give you a verbal report on what you have covered and what is planned for the next lesson. I promise that when you are ready for your test i won’t keep you a moment too long.
